The separate collection of Finnish household plastic packaging waste started in 2016. After this the amount of waste being collected is increasing but we still have a long way to go in order to reach the European recycling targets. Amerplast utilizes this separately collected plastic packaging waste material, processed by our partner Fortum, for the production of recycled plastic packaging such as recycled carrier bags and tissue films.
As a part of our AmerGreen program, Amerplast wants to actively promote the recycling of plastic packaging waste. For this reason we are opening a collection point for household plastic packaging waste at our Tampere factory premises in Finland. The collection point will be opened on June 5th when we are taking part in Finnish Plastics Industries Federation’s theme day #Ämpäristöteko for plastics recycling. Households had the opportunity to bring their rigid plastic goods to a separate collection point at our Tampere factory premises, to be recycled or utilized as energy. The event was a success and we collected a fair amount of plastics to be recycled. Read more about our Circular Economy Packaging Solutions.
“It is important for Amerplast to be actively developing and promoting the responsible use of plastics. At our Tampere factory, we produce the majority of carrier bags used in the Finnish market. We utilize recycled materials collected from Finnish households and industrial sources in the manufacture of these bags. In addition to being an important raw material for us, the recycled plastic is an environmentally sustainable raw material for carrier bags and other suitable packaging applications. We wish to be at the forefront of the development of our industry into an environmentally sound business and to promote the transition towards circular economy. The responsible use of plastics is a team effort, which requires cooperation between businesses, consumers and the society”, says Ari-Pekka Pietilä, Amerplast Chief Marketing Officer.
