It is important for us to ensure that the bio based raw materials we use in our production are produced in ethical and environmentally sound way. Amerplast has been found compliant with the Bonsucro Chain of Custody Standard. The certification is a proof of responsible sourcing and trading – it provides assurance that claims of compliance can be tracked along the supply chain of packaging made of sugar derived polyethylene.
Using bio based polyethylene in our production, enables us to provide the consumers and our customers with more sustainable flexible packaging options, thus contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases. The sugarcane based Green PE is produced using ethanol, a by-product in sugar production. Sugar cane is a 100% renewable and carbon dioxide depleting resource. Braskem’s Green PE removes up to 2.15 metric tons of CO2 from the atmosphere for each ton produced, from cradle to Braskem’s gate (source: LCA study by E4tech & LCA Works). While making sure that the new raw materials we provide for our customers are increasingly more sustainable, it is also all-important that we ensure the production of these materials is done in a sustainable and ethical way.
“Bonsucro certification is a way for us to communicate our commitment to sustainable business and to the high procurement standards”, says Ari-Pekka Pietilä, Amerplast Chief Marketing Officer. “It is important that bio based raw materials are produced and manufactured in a sustainable way and in accordance with fair labor practices. Sustainability is not only about low carbon emissions, but more about a comprehensive and long term commitment to make our future environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.”
At Amerplast, we are relentlessly promoting the use of bio based packaging solutions simply because we think it is our responsibility as a packaging supplier to constantly search for and bring forward the most environmentally friendly alternatives in materials and technologies for producing high quality packaging solutions. We are aiming to make bio based materials a standard in the flexible packaging business.
